Art Day of Kyra Lyn Moss

Ok, I decided to keep this blog a little more active, I will post five pieces of my artwork each week. The day may change, but for now it'll be on Tuesdays. I'm also doing this to promote my deviantart, which can be found on the sidebar :)

Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I think I got his face right eeee I usually suck at people

One of my kitties, Ninja :3 Awwww!! And yes, he really does sleep like that sometimes, mostly by the fire

This is supposed to be Fone Bone from the graphic novels, Bone, in case you couldn't tell :P

I made this when I was mad because I thought I couldn't draw well, and I also lost my earbuds at the time. I think I was wrong :D And I found the earbuds, though my cats sort of chewed on them (They still work)

My MC in my WIP novel, The Illusion, Gwen Blackwell :-) I like how she turned out! At first the colors bothered me, probably because I was working on it at night. Those square eyes though... heh.

~Tell me if you peeps like it, and what you'd like to see more from me. I can't promise anything, but I'll try ^-^

Save the Internet!!

I don't know if any of you reading this have heard, but tomorrow, there will be a vote on whether the Internet stays neutral for all- or we get put in the slow and laggy censored lane with fees. I don't know anyone who wants that besides the annoying people working with Verizon, AT&T and Comcast. Bleh.

So I thought I'd share my speech about net neutrality, which I had to do over the weekend, so here it be:

Imagine a world with your favorite websites taking ten, fifteen, twenty minutes to load, maybe even more. And imagine big cable corporations sitting around with bags upon bags of money while their websites are working just fine. This is a world without Internet neutrality, or net neutrality.

Today you'll discover one, why corporations don't want net neutrality, two, why net neutrality is important and three, what the world would look like without it.

As you may or may not know, in a few days on the 26th of February, there will be a vote in the FCC, the Federal Communications Commission, on whether the Internet should stay as it is, neutral, or put the public into the slow, laggy lane of blocked sites and fees for the Internet. Large corporations like AT&T, Verizon and Comcast, the ones who want us in the worst position, are only advocating against net neutrality for the money. They don't care much for the people, only for their own benefit. These companies have no right to take easily accessible information from us. It is unconstitutional.

Cable and phone companies are sick and tired of everyone having a fair chance to be seen on the Internet. They want to be the ones in charge and they want it to stay that way. They want complete control without competition. This means that they make the big money while leaving new and innovative ideas out in the cold to die. These ideas could change the world, but we will never know about them if the vote does not go the way of the popular opinion, for net neutrality.

Some people believe that you get what you pay for, that more money should equal greater service or equality. While this applies to products you purchase, this does not apply to the business platform known as the Internet. The Internet as it stands is an equal area providing equal opportunities to all businesses. Net neutrality is essential because it discourages monopolies and encourages competition among businesses of all sizes. Without competition, the big cable companies will be hoarding money unfairly as small businesses are scavenging for the scraps.

If the Internet does not stay as it is, the world will be very different, in a very negative way. For starters, with a dinosaur Internet, small businesses like Etsy and other sites would drop like flies. This would include Tumblr, Kickstarter and Yelp, who all support net neutrality. Cable and phone companies would take over, as they would be the ones in the "fast lane" with normally running computers and phones. In my opinion, everyone should have an equal chance to conduct their business without favoritism to companies with more money. The Internet is supposed to be a level playing ground for all businesses.

In the words of Tim Berners-Lee, one of the founders of the Internet, "Freedom of connection of applications to any party is the fundamental social basis of the Internet. And now, is the basis of a society built on the Internet." Never has this quote been more timely and true. Write your Congressional representatives as soon as possible to help stop this potential negative future. Do your part to keep the Internet free.

What do you think? Think I'll get 100? ;) And more importantly, whether you think the Internet should stay as it is or change and why. I hope you're on Team Internet! :D

Anya's Ghost Review

I got this on Sunday at Barnes & Noble, meaning to get some Doctor Who comic or Buffy. I was browsing in the graphic novel section when the name Anya caught my attention since Anya is in Buffy so heh I picked it up. And of course I instantly bought it. I've read it almost three times now and counting! So, the review:

Anya's start to the day so far has been a pain. Her crush is with somebody else, she's sick of the same, greasy Russian food her mom gives her, self-conscious of her body and is sick of her friend Siobhan. She's so lost in her thoughts that she doesn't even notice the old well until she falls into it. There, she meets a 90-year-old ghost named Emily who had fallen in during WWI. Emily follows her to the surface when she accidentally scoops a piece of her bone into her bag (she can't go far from where her bones are) and Emily is all too happy to help Anya with her problems and be her friend. But as things get out of hand, Anya realizes her new friend isn't what she seems.

So, you still might be wondering why I read this so many times. Well, Anya is a very relatable as a character, as she does not fit in to the crowd so easily and like a lot of teens, and is self-conscious. I sure am, acne wise anyway :P The situations she gets into are relatable too, though I haven't been in many of them since she's in high school, and I'm almost in high school.

I definitely recommend it for anyone who loves a good comic that's spooky, quirky and lovable. Also, fans of Smile and Sisters will most likely enjoy it :) Now go to a bookstore, comic bookstore or the internet and buy it! You know it's awesome if it's coming from Kyra Lyn Moss, right? You might not really now me, but still. Trust me on this.

The Snow Day In Which I Fainted

So. The day was last Monday, a snow day due to icy roads and, well, lots of snow. I woke up with a bad headache. I assumed I'd just eat my breakfast and drink some water and it would all be fine. Heh. I sat down, drank some water and had a bite or two of pancakes, and that didn't work. My headache only got worse. I remember moaning oh my god over and over and apparently I screamed and blacked out. I don't remember screaming, just like I don't remember screaming three years ago when I fainted after racing on my bike with my dad and brother. When I woke up after a few seconds, I found that I was on the floor (my dad lay me there- with a pillow). It was plain weird. After that I felt okay, not the best though. I lay down on the couch on my iPad watching a video on Koreans eating American food. That didn't make my stomach feel much better. Pretty soon, after attempting to nibble a bite of a cracker, I threw up all over the floor. I later found it was bile. Bleck. I definitely felt good after that, but not normal. I threw up again in the toilet. That's when my parents thought I should go to the doctors- urgent care anyway, since our doctor's office wasn't open on a crappy day like this. There, I waited until they called my parents and I. One of the guys gave me a Gatorade- the color of my throw up. That sure helped. And I threw up again into a container. After much examination, they thought I had appendicitis, but they weren't sure, so we should check with the emergency room.

I'm not sure if you know, but the emergency room people keep you there for HOURS on end, even when you're done. When I first got there, I sat down watching some hospital show in the lobby or whatever. I felt really dizzy, like I did in the car ride going there. Just as my dad was checking in, I passed out. I didn't realize I had at first, but when my dad shook me awake, I knew what had happened. And guess what? I threw up some more. I felt like I was fading in and out of reality. That's when one of the nurses came and got a wheel chair for me. I was too weak to walk much... though I had to walk to get up since the wheel chair couldn't fit through the doorway. That was actually pretty hard, and I know that might sound stupid. I lay down on the cushioned chair thing in any doctor's office or hospital. There, they questioned me about what happened, like in urgent care. They tested my blood pressure, and it was a little below as I recall. Then a nurse stabbed me with a needle (ok not stabbed but it hurt) and connected it with an IV- fluid tube. I was all back to normal after I went through the whole bag and watched random episodes of Family Guy and King of the Queens, both of which are not the best shows in the world. I had nothing in me, so I had to go through another IV- fluid bag so I could pee and leave xP Finally, I did. I re-read some of Paper Towns by John Green until my dad and I could leave at around 4:30. The doctors still didn't know what I had, but it wasn't appendicitis, thank god. They thought I might have been dehydrated. I barely had any time to drink when I woke up, so maybe I forgot to drink a lot the day before. I don't know. I might find out when I go for my check-up. Who knows.

Not Abandoning This Blog!

Ok I haven't posted in over a month because I really thought tumblr would work out. Turns out it didn't and no one is paying much attention to it. Sigh. So I thought I'd start this blog back up and catch you guys up on the details.
I'm currently writing more and more (chapter three guys! woot woot!) I'm pretty sure I'll have about 10 chapters per part, and there will be three parts. I've gotten better at drawing, and you can check that out here on the sidebar which I updated. Life has been mostly good, in the A range at school and all... just been a boring social life at school- sort of. I'll spare you the extra details there because I could rant on that for awhile :P What else since I've been gone... *cues Kelly Clarkson* I've gotten into Buffy the Vampire Slayer and a bit of Supernatural. But I really love Buffy er, more, and I'm planning on doing fan art for her asap. I'm in the process of it anyway. Um... I'm really into Bastille now, and currently reading Wonderbook by Jeff VanderMeer on how to create a novel. And to top that off, most of my February break has been canceled due to snow days. Darn. Still have a four day weekend though.
~I'll post a story tonight too about how I fainted last week and a half ago. Yay. Probably no novel sneak peaks for awhile. Sorry guys! Maybe ;) Glad to be back!
