Sneak Peak Number Two

I thought I'd share some more of my novel. This time, only a little bit. I don't want to reveal too much!

"Going to stick around all day won't do us any good," The figure said, dragging Gwen by her sweatshirt hood.
"But I wasn't-"
"My point is, is that we have to get out of here. Fast. The alarms are going to go off at any given moment!" Just as the words got out of her mouth, a chain of alarms went off in the lair. "See? We got to get moving."
"Hold on just a second." Gwen said, skidding her converse shoes onto the floor to force her to slow down. The figure stopped.
"Yes?" It asked with a clear state of annoyance.
"I don't even know you," She said, narrowing her eyes. "Why should I even trust you?"
"I don't know you either," The figure replied back. Its hood was still concealing its face. "But I do know that you have to trust me on this. No questions please," It started to grab for Gwen's sweatshirt hood again.
"Wait!" She flung out her arm and yanked the figure's hood away. Staring back at her was the same girl at the bus stop. Her dark brown hair seemed to be almost blown back and strands of it flecked in front of her pale face. What she hadn’t seen before were the color of her eyes- a bright sea green.

Not giving away much, as I said. To keep you guys suspenseful ;-) This scene was with my main character Gwen Blackwell meeting Lyra Phoenix. As you can see they get along nicely. What do guys think? It's still a work in progress, but I'm getting there! Oh, and I finished for Camp NaNo with over 20k! Very happy with the results. Word wars and races really help a ton.

One more update: I'm allowing anyone to comment on my posts, since I previously had it so only users with Google accounts could comment. One thing I ask, please no rude or unnecessary comments. You don't gain anything from it, and I don't either.

Another Adventure :P

So, my family and I finally got this thing sorted out after a day or two. Thing, you're asking? Oh. Forgot to mention. My vacation house was rented out for two days. We said only up to six people could come. Well. My dad checks the camera we have installed up there the day after, like he sometimes does, just to make sure everything's all right. Most of the time it is. Some snow or rain is nice to know. This time it was entirely different. Instead of one or two cars like we expected from the renters, nine or ten were on the camera screen. Twelve, actually, since we couldn't see all of the cars. Solo cups, beer caps and napkins littered the driveway. College kids went in and out casually. I later found out there were seventy-three of them. Insane. (There were originally six but word got out real fast overnight and it became a party house.) So my dad called our friends upstate since we weren't there and he went up himself to clean some stuff up. Thanks to our friends, the college kids cleaned up all the messes they had made, beer stains and cigarettes and all. Great. We even forgot to put away the Nerf guns in the baskets where we usually keep sports stuff so they were shooting each other with darts, some found on the property. Ugh. It's all gone now thankfully, though the one thing they damaged was the door knob lock of my bedroom and tore it off the wall. What an adventure my life is, hurrah.

The good news was that instead of worrying about it all day like I had been, staring at the camera screen, I got to go out to lunch with my aunt, uncle and brother where of course I had a Belgian waffle with whipped cream. Why not? Then we all went to a nearby farmer's market and had snickerdoodles and Italian ice with live music by a talented eleven-year-old singing Lean On Me. Soon after we hung out at their place and talked and then went to a really big Barnes & Noble, the kind with a café and two floors. Not like the kind in NY, at least as far as I know of! I got The Promise graphic novel for Avatar The Last Airbender which I am rereading for the third time :D My brother got Avatar: The Lost Adventures with cute, funny comics of the gang. And soon (eh probably not soon) I'll be getting the next book after The Promise- The Search! Fangirling so much right now. Though Amazon says I won't get it until the 1st-18th .___. Really, Amazon? You've sent much faster deliveries than that. Oh well.

As for my novel, I'll be surpassing my 20k goal tomorrow, that is, if I write 2k. Soon I'll have to be advertising and stuff... wow. Pretty exciting after working with this novel for almost ten months! More sneak peaks may be posted... ;-) Stay tuned my friends!

Updates~

So, yeah. Forgot to mention, though you probably noticed already. I sorta updated the site! New background, sorta different theme, different colored links and fonts, all that jazz. I noticed some of my other fellow bloggers were updating their's and I thought heck why not? It needed some little spice added onto it. So what do you guys think? :D

UPDATE: I added a pages thingy on top since I finally figured it out! I like the turquoise/tealish color I added. I might change it at some point, but not now. And I added a little badge for my NaNoWriMo participation last year and a Weapons of Mass Creation picture. Blogger is mostly making sense to me now...

Days in The Life of Kyra Lyn Moss

The "Mystery Machine" I was talking about and more at Bethel Woods!
I've been so absorbed in Camp NaNo that I haven't used my blog! I'm thinking of updating the About Me since I did that in a rush. So anyway, things in life that have happened recently:

My family and I have renters for our vacation house!! That means more moola and such :D And I'll be in downstate NY for a week, which is nice after staying there for awhile. I'm really happy what we've done with the vacation house, how we added onto the
basement and now that's a good movie room and dining room.

Annnnd I saw Jimmy Buffett on the 17th at Bethel Woods!!! It was absolutely amazing! My mom and I went to the museum to see some of its history, how Woodstock was there and all. I loved how there was an old, painted peace punch buggy and van like the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo. And the old albums were so vintage and nice... they even had The Four Season's Sherry! I fangirled a lot, I'll admit it. I was also one of the people who got to see The Beatles Experience, limited time only, for exclusive Beatles photos never-before-seen and an Ed Sullivan show on a vintage TV. Though Bethel Woods didn't have the rights to show The Beatles performing in '64 on the show boo hoo :( Just Ed Sullivan talking. Ah well. But the concert, woo! People smoking weed and cigarettes, wearing coconut bras, shark fins and parrotheads... o_o It was awesome! Jimmy even did an encore for us, which was even more coolio. Though we didn't get home until around 1:00 in the morning, which was a downside. But hey. It's a good life.

((I'm almost done early with NaNo too and will be editing it throughout August- think I said that already))

Sneak Peak Number One

I thought I'd share a bit more of The Illusion, this time with chapter one. In the first chapter following the prologue, Gwen meets a strange girl who looks like she's hiding something. Here it is:

Gwen waited impatiently on the side of the curb, tapping her foot as she paced. She had been waiting near the city bus stop for half an hour. There was still no maroon minivan in sight. For what seemed the 153rd time, she checked her watch. The silvery hands pointed closer to the six.
“You have got to be kidding me,” She said as she bit the inside of her lip in frustration. Where is he?
Another ten minutes passed and not a maroon minivan drove by. Gwen finally sat down a nearby bench. Her father was supposed to pick her up a little under and hour ago and yet there wasn’t a trace of him. She had even tried calling him on one of the public phones, twice, though it was no use. He simply wasn’t answering.
Dad’s never this late, She thought. Maybe something happened on the throughway?
"Hey, excuse me! Gwen, do you know where to find the Illusions Inc. building?” A demanding voice asked from behind her. She was about to turn around when she saw that the source of the voice was right in front of her. A girl with dark brown hair down to her elbows stared at her with piercing green eyes. Her denim jacket seemed to drape over her arms, and strangely, they appeared scorched at the sleeves.
“Yeah, it’s a couple of hours from here, in Connecticut,” Gwen paused. “How do you know my name?”
“Did I say your name? I said that absentmindedly. I was thinking about, um, my friend across the street.” The girl pointed to a deli.
“No one lives in the deli.” Gwen said.
“I wasn’t pointing at the deli! I was pointing at the apartment next to it!”
“That’s an unused apartment.”
“Well, she just moved in.” The girl said confidently.
“Sure, whatever you say,” Gwen avoided her gaze from falling on the girl.
“I can’t believe it’s in Connecticut. After all this time I’ve been looking for it and it’s in Connecticut.” She muttered what must have been a cuss word under her breath, but it sounded more like gibberish to Gwen.
“What, you didn’t ask anyone else but me?”
“Why wouldn’t I ask you? I don’t trust anyone else around here.” The girl’s face went white. “Uh, sorry, I meant you seemed like a trustworthy sort of person.” Her green eyes darted around anxiously.
Something in the back of her mind was tugging at Gwen. She knew the girl from somewhere, right? But from where? No names or memories came to her. Wait, she remembered! The girl’s name was something like-
“Gwen!” Mr. Blackwell honked the car horn loudly, knocking her out of her thoughts.
She took another look over the strange, but familiar girl. “Well, nice meeting you.” She held up a hand as she opened the mini van’s back seat doors. The girl seemed to be practically dancing with the fake smile hung up on her mouth.

So, how do you think that is peeps? :-) Not a completely done chapter one, but almost done. Camp NaNo helps a lot with my writing, thankfully. August will be the month I look it over and organize it. But for now- write as much as I can!

Camp NaNoWriMo

Gosh! I've been busy writing. And plus Google was being a bit difficult with me signing in and all... anyways, since I've been talking about my novel and all, I should introduce it. Novel, you. You, novel. There. Ok, ok, a synopsis.

The Illusion, my book, is about a girl named Gwen Blackwell who creates a fake world to preserve the Earth. In the process, she forgets who she is, and during the novel she remembers must decide if she should preserve Earth more while the old Illusion fails, or let the people see the destruction they have caused. Phew. I think I explained it right ;)

I'm trying to get down more than 20,000 words this month, and so far I have 4k. The 4th was busy, so don't blame me. My work is unfortunately scattered around the computer and my iPad, but hey, at least I get some more words down. I'll give you guys a sneak peak on my new character, Dennis Nix, a 18 year old that works with the rivals in my story, Illusion Inc. Here it is:
Dennis sighed as he flipped over one of the business cards. On it was a picture of a woman with long, strawberry blonde hair with rows of books behind her. Next to the photo were words that read 'Alyssa's Book Shop' and under, 'Everyone's welcome to sit back and read once in awhile'.
“I wish.” He muttered under his breath. He folded it in half, then in half again and stuffed it into the cup holder besides him. Thinking better of it, Dennis stuffed it to the very bottom instead.
“Problem?” A man sitting next to him asked, his grayed bushy eyebrows raised.
“It's nothing.” Dennis replied. The old man rubbed his chin.
“Are you sure about that? It doesn't seem like it. Perhaps... a girl problem?”
“I told you, it's no big deal,” He said, slumping into the cushioned seat.
“All right, if you say so,” The man shrugged and sipped his cup of latte. Dennis reached for crumpled business card while he thought the man wasn't looking.
“Ah ha!” The old man snatched the card from him and flattened it out on his lap. “So it is a girl problem.”
“Ok, yes, it's a girl problem,” He said, his teeth clenched.

Ah, Dennis. So socially awkward. I'm sure you guys will like him, once this gets out there in the big ocean of book stores.
